Despite their name, French Bulldogs actually originated in England as miniature versions of the English Bulldog. In the mid-1800s, English lace workers brought these small bulldogs to France during the Industrial Revolution. In Paris, the breed was crossed with local terriers and pugs, developing the distinctive bat ears. French artists and society figures fell in love with them, and by the late 19th century, the "Frenchie" became a symbol of Parisian café culture.
