The Ragdoll breed was developed in Riverside, California in the 1960s by breeder Ann Baker. She bred a white domestic longhaired cat named Josephine with various male cats, selecting for their docile temperament and tendency to go limp when held β€” hence the name "Ragdoll." Ann Baker established the International Ragdoll Cat Club with strict breeding guidelines. The breed was first exported to the UK in the 1980s and has since become one of the most popular cat breeds worldwide, known for their dog-like affection and gentle nature.
